Government Supports English Partnership
The government is supporting English Partnership’s proposals on future brownfield development. New development on brownfield land has risen significantly from 60-75 per cent since 1997. Following these excellent figures, the government is adopting a new approach to brownfield land throughout England.
English Partnership has published their findings as “The National Brownfield Strategy.” Four main issues have been highlighted and will require careful examination, namely:
1.Determining how brownfield land is identified.
2.Determining how the environment can be protected.
3.The long term management of restored land.
4.The skills needed to deliver the strategy.
The skills issue is being addressed in a separate report called “The National Brownfield Skills Strategy,” published by the English Partnership and the Academy for Sustainable Communities (ASC). The report is out for consultation until 27th May 2008 and the results will be published in autumn 2008.
