Reduce carbon monoxide

Carbon monoxide is a gas created by the incomplete burning of fuels. It is poisonous, odorless and virtually undetectable without a proper sensor. This extremely dangerous emission is created by vehicles that burn gasoline and by factories that burn fossil fuels. In fact, many people die from carbon monoxide poisoning every year due to a malfunction in their furnace, water heater or a buildup of the gas in a closed garage where the car has been left running. It creates flu-like symptoms in a person who has been exposed to this gas that include headaches, shortness of breath dizziness and nausea. Continued exposure usually leads to death. Knowing how poisonous carbon monoxide can be to humans, one has to how dangerous the effects must be to the environment.

How can the world reduce the amount of carbon monoxide that is put into the air? The answer to this is simple, the world needs to produce less carbon monoxide. The burning of garbage, for example, emits a large amount of carbon dioxide into the air, but it also emits carbon monoxide. Not burning garbage, but disposing of it properly (including recycling and reusing as much as possible) means less carbon monoxide and other greenhouse gasses are being emitted into the air. Alternative ways of generating clean energy are also necessary in order to reduce these emissions. Using the energy from the sun or the wind instead of burning fossil fuels will greatly reduce the amount of carbon monoxide being released into the air.

Each individual has the power to help in making this change and work to emit less carbon monoxide into the air. Being aware of what sorts of products release carbon monoxide, and trying to decrease the amount of use these get can help reduce the amount of carbon monoxide released into the air. The added benefit of this is that it will reduce the amount of carbon monoxide that is in your home, and will aid in protecting your family from breathing excess carbon monoxide. Keeping the heater down or even changing to an alternate energy source to heat the home will help reduce the emissions. Taking public transit and/or using a hybrid car and carpooling will also help reduce the amount of monoxide being put into the air. Recycling and reusing, using less hot water, saving electricity and being more efficient in the use of energy will all help in reducing the amount of carbon monoxide that a person puts into the air.
