Interracial Dating In Our Modern Society
Interracial dating in the world is becoming very popular these days, even though; only 5% of all marriages in the United States are interracial. People that live in areas where multiple races live on any given day are more likely to be open about dating interracially or have been in an interracial relationship.
This is becoming a trend of college, high school, and even working class citizens. As the world becomes populated with every race and with people moving around so often, more and more people are opening themselves up to interracial dating. Famous celebrities even play a crucial roll in the world's acceptance of interracial relationships. With big names opening up to interracial relationships and marriages you also see everyday people "jumping on the bandwagon" and seeing if the grass is greener on the other side.
In many black families the mother is the one who basically decides to accept or reject an interracial relationship. Whereas in white or other races it is typically the father figure or other people in the family. These figures that play crucial rolls in the lives of young adults are becoming more open themselves and allowing interracial relationships. This, in all reality helps the world go round. Since things such as interracial relationships were not permitted or looked down upon by the respective race for many, many years it has obviously been a hesitant thing for a young adult to go ahead with. So by the upper figure giving the go ahead it sets an example for the rest of the world for years to come.
From 1970 to 1990 there were almost 1 million mixed-race marriages. This was a huge number considering the laws that were in place before 1970 prohibiting such things. In recent times more than 65% of Japanese Americans marry outside their race. In the Native American race this number is even greater with 75%. Recent studies have shown that 57% of teenagers would date outside their race. Another 30% would consider the possibility. These numbers would have been very scarce even in the early 90s.
Even in recent times interracial dating is not accepted by all. It is kind of shocking to see people not accept something that are as natural as growing grass. Racism is something that is being battled to the very day and will go on for many years to come. With more people accepting what should have accepted a long time ago you see less and less racism in the world.
A big roll that is being played by online dating communities is opening people's eyes to other races. Matching people on compatibility not by what the color of their skin is. Interracial dating sites out there and are used by many people that have recognized what the world is really made of.
