Non stop advertising: Fernando's new 14 hour record
Most adverts are short and snappy; designed to capture the viewer's attention and get their message across in just a few seconds. Some adverts last a little longer, but even the notoriously lengthy infomercial rarely stretches beyond thirty minutes. However, the world of commercials is about to be extended to new lengths with the launch of a 14 hour advertisement, that will be officially recognised by the Guinness book of World records.
14 hours may seem like an excessive length of time needed to sell your product, but this figure was not randomly plucked from the air; it's all part of a wider campaign being launched by the international airline Emirates, who are soon to start flying non-stop from Dubai to Sao Paulo, a flight which takes - you guessed it - 14 hours.
The video is being hailed as the longest advert ever and features "Fernando" a Sao Paulo native, who talks about the many aspects of his beloved city, which visitors will find, informative, amusing and interesting. Travellers watching the advert will learn quirky facts and glean advice about Sao Paulo which can't be found in guidebooks.
Hailed as the New York of the southern hemisphere, Sao Paulo is the capital of the state of the same name, and located in the South East of Brazil. With a population of 11 million, Sao Paulo is the most populated city in the southern hemisphere, with a multitude of skyscrapers and the 3rd tallest skyline in the world.
During the 14 hour advert, the aptly named "Non-stop Fernando" tells us about the many attractions of his native city. From where he would take a lady on a first date (Parque do Carmo - the equivalent of London's Hyde Park), to the many street cafes where various intellectuals, poets and writers converge, not to mention the atmosphere of taking in a football match at any one of the three major grounds in the city.
For those interested in seeing some Brazilian art, Fernando talks of a world renowned museum, apparently regarded as the best in the Southern Hemisphere, as well as an area where visitors can go and see working class artists painting, drawing and sketching in the markets and streets of the city.
The charismatic Brazilian also goes on to introduce some of the best night spots in the city, highlighting the multicultural nature of the Sao Paulo including the various ethnic neighbourhoods, such as Japanese, Italian and Chinese areas. Fernando also gives us insights into the Portuguese language, with some simple lessons to help the more linguistically challenged amongst us get by.
The world breaking nature of the advert is likely to create a buzz in the blogging world, and the loveable Fernando waxing lyrical about his home city is bound to generate interest in Brazil and get people heading south to Sao.
