Planning a trip through the English countryside is both very exciting and a little overwhelming. While England may not be the largest country, there is a lot to do and even more to see. The English countryside is rich in both history and secrets. One of the famous areas is Yorkshire.
Yorkshire is located in northern England and includes the famous city of York which is almost 2,000 years old. Yorkshire is believed to be one of the most beautiful areas in England because of the rural greenery and natural vegetation. The North York Moors has some of the most breathtaking views in North Yorkshire. Becoming a national park in 1952 The North York Moors is one of many attractions that Yorkshire has to offer.
While visiting Yorkshire be sure to visit some of the many English castles and Stately homes. Middleham castle is always a great choice for any traveler. Dating back to the twelfth century, it is easy to imagine how great this castle once was and why this was Richard III favorite of all the castles. After Henry VIII became king the castle fell into disrepair.
One of Yorkshires most famous sites is Castle Howard which is located just outside of York. Taking almost 100 years to complete, Castle Howard is home to an excessive art collection including paintings, sculpture and porcelain. This incredible estate which welcomes 200,000 visitors every year, is still owned, and occupied by the Howard family.
Be sure to also visit Yorkshire lavender, a 60 acre nursery which an amazing variety of lavender. It is truly a unique experience. There is an abundance of historic churches in Yorkshire. Be sure to check out the Gothic architecture of Whitby Abbey. Or just drive a little off the beaten path and discover one of many charming churches in the country.
